Course Description
We really can cater for whatever you want to get out of the day, either totally skills based with a high degree of instruction and practice or a team building challenge day. Either way it will be fun.
We can also bring the experience to you. We are happy to travel and currently work with several organisations / corporate clients around the area as well as providing personalised days for groups of friends or families.
Subjects That Can Be Covered:
Natural surroundings: how to interpreting them with a view to dangers, sourcing of materials for shelter, fire and many other uses.
Shelter building: using natural materials or using tarps we can provide a comprehensive overview of the best place to site a shelter and safe construction.
Setting up camp: This might be using tarps and hammocks, tents or bivi’s. We can show you the best ways to site your camp including your camp fire, toileting etc.
Water: sourcing, collecting, filtering and purifying
Natural cordage: using the same techniques our ancestors did we will make string using natural materials.
Camp gadgets: simple structures for suspending pots over your fire.
Tool use: from bushcraft knife to axe. Folding saw to bow saw we can instruct on a range of different tools safe use.
Natural navigation: using your surroundings to be able to identify the main points of the compass in day or night.
Weaving: make simple baskets out of willow or bramble or more simple willow crafts such as bird feeders and Christmas Tree decorations.
Wild Food: learn about some of the abundant wild foods / medicines available in our countryside then cook them up into tasty meals or snacks.
Game preparation: learn about the different game available, how to prepare and cook them. This can include trout, rabbit, squirrel, wood pigeon or deer depending on whats available.
Tracking: learn about the different wildlife we have around us, how o identify their ‘signs’ and the prints they leave behind.
Fire lighting: using the ancient tools of flint and steel, the more modern fire steel and finishing with friction fire using the bow and drill or a selection of different methods.
Woodland games: things you can make and do to keep you entertained.
